Welcome to VA Clare Valley
VA Clare Valley is a renowned Vineyard and Olive Estate, nestled on the slopes Armagh in the Clare Valley region of South Australia.
VA Clare Valley is a 90 minute drive from Adelaide through one of the most beautiful wine growing regions in Australia.
The Clare Valley is synonymous with wine. It is considered the benchmark for Australian Riesling, with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon vintages also attracting global attention. VA Clare Valley’s wine-maker, Kevin Mitchell, has won several awards, both local and international.
Yet the spotlight hasn’t gone to our heads. The Clare Valley remains a truly rustic region, the wineries mostly small boutique cellar doors, and the towns dotting the landscape are infused with traditional country warmth and hospitality.
Visitors here have a good chance of drinking wine with the vintners themselves, finding cellar doors operating out of farmhouses and sheds, and hearing stories of family-owned vineyards from proud descendants.
The clustering of boutique wineries within 15 minutes of Clare makes touring easy by car, or by bicycle or foot along the 25 km Riesling Trail.
Clare Valley produce and cuisine
The Armagh Valley is similar to valleys in the Tuscany and Umbria regions of Italy, sharing an identical Mediterranean climate and altitude of 350-650 metres above sea level. These attributes lend themselves perfectly not only to the production of wines, but olives too, resulting in our quality Tuscan variety olive oils and other gourmet produce.
Clare Valley cuisine has become a focus for tourism in the area, with more and more farmers and wine-makers creating quality food products, and an increasing number of restaurants committed to using the Valley’s fabulous local produce.
Other products that share the VA Clare Valley label are Red Wine Vinegar and Blue Gum Honey. The honey is renowned for its taste and texture.
Our products are sold through the cellar door, local Clare market and throughout Australia.
Other attractions of the Clare Valley
The Clare Valley is the gateway to the beautiful Flinders Ranges. Walkers can pick up the Heysen Trail from here, which runs for 1,200 km from Cape Jervis on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula to Parachilna Gorge in the Flinders Ranges.
A great alternative for mountain bikers is the 900 km Mawson Trail, also accessible from the Clare Valley. For more information, go to the South Australian Trails website.
To fully experience all that the Clare Valley has to offer, we recommend following the 300 km, self-drive Heartland Heritage Trail.
The route takes in seven of the Valley’s historic towns, several wineries, restaurants, art galleries, and more than 30 pubs!
For something really special, there’s Martindale Hall near Mintaro, a Georgian mansion featured in the classic Australian film, “Picnic at Hanging Rock”. The property is open to inquisitive day visitors, but guests staying in the on-site accommodation get to use the heritage site after hours, dining at the huge mahogany table, playing billiards and breakfasting in the huge kitchen.
The nearby Mintaro Maze is a hit with families, and if you have time on your hands and want to get right into the landscape, there are a number of walk trails, and the Clare Golf Club in amongst the vineyards.
